Winter has arrived
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas … two days late!
We’re almost at the end of 2020. Hurray, I hear you shout. What a year it’s been; one that we will all want to forget, but won’t ever be allowed to.
Christmas Day has been and gone. To be honest, the restrictions in place didn’t make any difference to my family’s day; it’s been a few years since we had a large family gathering. These days, we have a chilled out, slow food day, eating as and when the turkey finally cooks.
We didn’t have a white Christmas, but the snow arrived yesterday, and it looks as if it will hang around for a few days. I always enjoy how it changes the landscape; a deceptively soft-looking blanket cloaking the ground and decorating the trees.
We don’t get that much snow here so I took the dog and my camera off to the local wood, Monadh Mor, for a wander. It seemed as if the whole of the Black Isle had had the same idea - people everywhere! Luckily, most people don’t bother walking the whole circuit so, once past the point where the masses generally turn back, I had the place almost to myself. And it was beautiful; I love the cold, crisp air that invigorates as you walk, and the shapes and patterns formed by the snow. A familiar landscape rendered unfamiliar by its newly acquired mantle.
